Bespoke consumer units power new landmark Birmingham Development

A suite of Hager products is helping to power a new and exciting mixed-use residential and leisure development in the heart of Birmingham.

As part of the Hockley Mills project, almost 400 of Hager’s bespoke consumer units have been specified as an effective power distribution solution for the landmark project.

The Hockley Mills development, located in the city’s famous Jewellery Quarter, will deliver a high-end residential and leisure complex including 395 luxury apartments, individual landscaped courtyards, commercial office space, active retail units, and new workshop spaces intended to support the region’s jewellery design and production.

Working alongside the project’s contractor, Hager’s Tailored Solutions team have developed two bespoke LV switchboards. In addition, Hager’s consumer units have been specified for each of the apartments with the added protection of arc fault detection devices (AFDD) as standard. The pre-assembled boards mean installation times are reduced while the addition of the AFDD solution delivers enhanced safety and protection for apartment owners and their electronic equipment.

"The benefits that our next-generation Power and Lighting Electrical Distribution Boards offer ensures the need to improve energy efficiency of the premises is being met"
Paul Bennett

Project Sales Manager

Also specified for the project, were twenty of Hager’s Power and Lighting Electrical Distribution Boards. The fully assembled solution offers greater configuration flexibility and increased energy consumption data transparency. With the latest range benefitting from a new energy meter, Hager’s Power and Lightboard boards enable the building owners to better understand where energy is being consumed and potentially wasted.

Paul Bennett, Project Sales Manager at Hager, comments “With the recent increases in energy cost, the need to ensure energy is being consumed as efficiently as possible, particularly on such a large development as Hockley Mills, is an important consideration. The benefits that our next-generation Power and Lighting Electrical Distribution Boards offer, providing access to improved and simplified energy monitoring, ensures the need to improve energy efficiency of the premises is being met."

Marking a significant milestone for Hager, the high-profile Hockley Mills development is the first significant UK commercial project to use the Quadro switchboard solution. The low voltage switchboard will ensure the project’s developers benefit from a highly flexible, transparent, and future proofed low voltage solution created specifically for the commercial marketplace.
