What is ProTools?
Exclusive to Hager AFDDs, ProTools provides the professional installer with advanced fault finding and rectification capabilities.
Why Arc Fault Detection Devices?
As of September 2022, the use of AFDDs is mandatory in certain types of installations.
The updated regulations state AFDDs shall be provided for single-phase AC final circuits supplying socket-outlets with a rated current not exceeding 32 A in:
- Higher Risk Residential Buildings (HRRB)
- Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO)
- Purpose-Built Student Accommodation (PBSA)
- Care homes

Can everyone have access to the Hager Pilot app?
On the front of the app when it is opened, there is a warning that says you have to be an approved electrician to be able to use Pro Tools. By accepting that statement you are confirming you are a competent electrician. To request a software upgrade there is a requirement to be a professional electrician and you will need to have a myHager account. -
Who can access the ProTools software in the Hager Pilot App?
The use of the mobile app and connected devices are strictly for BS 7671 qualified electricians ONLY.
Hager assumes no responsibility or liability whatsoever in case of non-compliance with the instructions given in the application or in the product manuals.

When there is a new firmware update will installers be notified of the update?
When a test/inspection is carried out on an installation if installers connect to the device, the app will let the user know if an update is available.

What is an Arc Fault?
Where the electrical current jumps between 2 conductive materials. The most common causes of arcs include worn contacts in electrical equipment, damage to insulation, break in a cable and loose connections.

What, in your opinion, are the biggest changes to the Wiring Regulations?
The most notable changes with the publication of Amendment 2 are the reinforced use of both arc fault detection devices and surge protection devices.

How do arc fault detection devices work?
Arc Fault Detection Devices (AFDD) use microprocessor technology to analyse the waveform of electricity being used to detect any unusual signatures which would alert an arc on the circuit. as a result, the power will be cut off from the affected circuit.

Are AFDDs required in the wake of the Amendment 2 of the Wiring regulations?
The AFDD regulations introduced in March 2022, with the introduction of Amendment 2 of the 18th edition now place a requirement for installing arc fault detection devices in Residential Buildings that are deemed 'higher risk'.
