Why Arc Fault Detection Devices?

As of September 2022, the use of AFDDs is mandatory in certain types of installations.

The updated regulations state AFDDs shall be provided for single-phase AC final circuits supplying socket-outlets with a rated current not exceeding 32 A in:

 - Higher Risk Residential Buildings (HRRB)
 - Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO) 
- Purpose-Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) 
- Care homes

Participating in the trial, Hager’s very own Country Marketing Leader, Ian Smith, had the latest single module device installed in his home. With the property already benefiting from a Design 30 consumer unit installation, our technical team were able to upgrade the unit to include our new single module RCBO AFDD.
