Using our prefabricated wiring system, Klik 7 Pin, GT Electrics Ltd was able to save approximately 50% on lighting installation time, when compared to standard wiring systems. In addition, by using ‘plug and play’, the prefabricated wiring allows the lighting configuration to adapt to the needs of future tenants.

Birchin Court | Lighting Control System

Designed by Concept Design 95 Ltd, the 7740 sq. ft. open plan office on the fourth floor of Birchin Court underwent a complete refurbishment.

Guy Tayler, managing director of GT Electrics Ltd comments: “We chose Hager’s Klik 7 Pin due to the speed of installation. The system has pre-tested cables, meaning less time on site; whilst the colour-coded plugs allowed our electricians to easily identify which particular circuit the cables run to.

“Another advantage of the Klik 7 Pin Lighting System is the multi-pin plugs, which allow dimming, as well as 230V power to each light fitting.”

There are three entrances to the office at Birchin Court. Luminaires are grouped together using klik marshalling boxes and are controlled by a sensor, combining occupancy detection with daylight harvesting. The KNX bus links the occupancy sensors, switches and KNX actuators to allow control of the lighting circuits. The alternative hard-wired lighting solution would involve running cables to a switch – this is both labour intensive and inflexible if there are any changes or additions.

Our KNX system allowed GT Electrics to programme the lighting to create a corridor of light when presence is detected in any of the three entrances, which is especially suitable for the night security guards and late workers. Each sensor can be programmed to be a master and a slave, meaning if a sensor detects presence it will switch on its lights, and it will also communicate with adjacent sensors so that the entire corridor is lit.

Other control includes a time clock, to allow the lighting to turn on and off at pre-set times. At night, the lighting is set to a 10% dimmed level for improved energy efficiency.

Guy Tayler adds: “Compared to standard light switches, the Hager KNX system allows for flexible lighting usage. The lighting system can be easily programmed and re-programmed in the future, as the office layout is altered.

“The Hager engineers came to site both during and after installation to check there were no issues. Using Hager’s Klik 7 Pin lighting connection system with KNX has been a good investment, saving us time and the associated costs on installation.”
