Finalists for Install of the Year 2024

Gavin O'Flaherty, HETTO Electrical Services

My name is Gavin O Flaherty and I have been working for myself for the past five years. I worked as a labourer on sites for a number of years before taking up an apprenticeship at the age of 26! It was a tough decision at that age but I am so thankful for it now.

When I first started my own business in 2019, I focused on installing electric car chargers. It opened a door into renewables for me and after finishing an LED lighting upgrade in IKEA, I was approached to do a large scale job upgrading bus stops nationwide to have solar powered lighting. I really enjoyed this job and went on to complete multiple solar courses to further my expertise in this area of electrical services. At the end of 2023, I installed Ireland’s first solar powered billboard in Dublin city centre. It was a great project to be involved with and look forward to installing many more around Ireland.

I take great pride in my work, down to the last detail and always use the Hager brand. I complete a lot of industrial work alongside domestic and really enjoy a challenge.

Rob Morey, Bright Future Solar Ltd

My name is Rob Morey, and I am the foreman at Bright Future Solar. I am a passionate and skilled electrician with a keen interest in the power and intricacy of electrical systems. I take great pride in ensuring safety and efficiency in every project I undertake. My expertise includes residential and commercial electrical work, troubleshooting, and the installation of state-of-the-art solar systems. I am committed to continuous learning and staying updated with the latest industry standards to provide top-notch service to my clients.

I am also dedicated to training and mentoring the younger electricians in our company, sharing my knowledge and enthusiasm for this dynamic field. I am excited to participate in this competition and share my passion for the industry.

Donal Jordan, John Brennan Electrical

My name is Donal Jordan. I’m 25 years old from Carlow. I work for John Brennan Electrical Ltd., based in Co. Carlow. I served my apprenticeship through this company and am still working with them now. I started my apprenticeship in 2018 and qualified in June of 2023. The majority of the work we do is domestic and commercial with a small bit of industrial work. The fuse board entered in the competition was for a dentist surgery. We use Hager on all our installs as we find it the most reliable to use.

James Carraher, Carraher Electrical

I'm James from Carraher Electrical. We are a small family run Electrical Contractors who work in the Dublin area. We pride ourselves on our high standands and therefore only use materials we see fit to ensure we can adhere to this. Some years ago when I took over Carraher Electrical  my first decision was to implement the primary use of Hager products for second fixing and for all consumer units.  This decision has benefited us greatly as it has sufficiently reduced our customer call backs. We have numerous property management clients with a large number of emergency works and we have in the past encountered problems with many other manufacturer's RCBOs. Our Hager Rep is always available and on the other end of the phone and the technical team are easily messaged on whatsapp for any technical information needed.

Cormac O'Callaghan, Ross Cashman Electrical

My name is Cormac O'Callaghan. I’m 27 years old from Youghal, Co. Cork. I work as a domestic/commercial electrician for Ross Cashman Electrical in Youghal. I started my trade in 2018 and ended up being qualified in July 2023 because of a slight delay with the covid pandemic.
My typical workday involves me teaching apprentices, wiring houses, second fixing houses, fault finding and testing. One of my favourite things to do in the trade is consumer unit/ fuse board. There is nothing more satisfying in the trade than completing a tidy board. In June 2024 I won the install of the month and I was delighted to receive my prize of the Hager screwdrivers that I had my eye on for years so thanks to Hager for that and sharing my work.

Joe Duffy

My name is Joseph Duffy I'm from Tullamore, Co. Offaly. I'm am an electrician with over 27 years of experience, and I have a passion for ensuring safe and efficient electrical systems. I have extensive experience in both domestic and industrial projects from installations to repairs. I really enjoy using Hager products, especially their fuseboards.

My goal is to provide a high-quality service while keeping up with the latest industry standards and technologies. Whether it's troubleshooting issues or upgrading systems, I take the utmost pride in delivering reliable solutions that meet my clients needs.

Jack O'Sullivan, Mike Curtin Electrical

Hi my name is Jack O’Sullivan, I am just after turning 20 years old. I am an apprentice electrician from Kerry I started my apprenticeship in August of 2022 straight after my leaving cert. I completed my first phase in college of my apprenticeship in June of 2024 in Tralee. My boss Mike Curtin is from Brosna the same parish as myself, we mostly do domestic and agricultural work. There’s 3 of us in the company, we have another apprentice Dom. I first learnt of the Hager competitions when I sent my install to my friend who recommended I send it into Hager to try win the screwdrivers, so I did and didn’t think any more of it until to my surprise they messaged me to say I that I had won. My install in August that won install of the month was my first time doing a full Fuse Board from start to finish on my own.

Dan Hennessy

Hi my Name is Dan Hennessy. I'm a qualified electrician with 15 years experience in all aspects of the electrical trade. I have previously worked in Oil and gas, mining, and container crane installation. I am currently lecturing in the electrical trade at MTU Kerry. I like to keep up to date with the trade by doing some domestic and commercial installs from time to time. I take a lot of my pride in my work, and have to say the Hager Vega switch boards and switch gear are an absolute pleasure to work with.

Fionn Coakley, Coakley Electrical

Fionn Coakley is my name, owner of Coakley Electrical Services Ltd in West Kerry. My father John has over 40 years experience in the industry and I have been taking it over from him over the past number of years while he’s winding down. We always strive to give the best possible service to our clients with great attention to detail. We like to use Hager 16kVA enhanced boards where possible, they are very impressive space wise and the push in terminals are a game changer for speeding up the process.

Sean Farrell, Robbie Burke Electrical

My name is Sean Farrell. I’m a 21 year old that’s been in the trade 5 years. Luckily I am experienced working with Hager distribution boards, completing plenty of domestic boards and some small commercial panels. I enjoy using Hager distribution boards as I find they are the best to work with, they are very spacious and help to achieve a cleaner and neater install. This install being the biggest I’ve completed so far.

Chris McCarthy, CMac Electrical

I started out as mechanic, then joined the ESB, done the apprenticeship and spent 7 yrs working there in total. Then joined Avonmore Elec to get up to speed with motors/control and automation. From here re-joined the ESB as a contractor and in 2020 set up my limited company C Mac Electrical. Worried about running out of work and money etc was a huge part of the first 12 months but as of now we have 5 on the tools and 1 in the office split between 3 Vehicles. The projects are progressing well and the workload is growing year on year. Since the start I’ve been a Hager installer as most brands can’t compete with the quality. Our work is very broadly based including Secondary Schools, Nursing Homes, Domestic, Security and Maintenance.
