Commitment to Sustainability: Declarations & Certifications

Hager is dedicated to sustainability and environmental protection. We obtain certifications from recognized organizations and incorporate information on recycled materials, lifecycle, and footprint reduction into our products, as detailed in our PEP documents.

Our product sustainability certifications & declarations for durable electrical solutions

Global reports consistently highlight the importance of investigations into sustainable development. This initiative spans multiple sectors, including the energy and electricity sectors where Hager operates. Our planet bears the consequences of our actions and behaviours regarding environmental protection. Decisions made in favour of environmental well-being impact not just those around us, but the entire planet.

Ecological challenges and the responses of companies like Hager signal the dawn of a new mindset. One of the ways we can demonstrate our commitment to sustainability is by obtaining certification from recognized sustainability organizations. We provide our customers and stakeholders, who are increasingly concerned about the environmental and social impacts of the materials, products and solutions they use, by proposing durable solutions. The eco-designing of our products contributes to the circular economy by working on more sustainable packaging as well as materials for our products. For instance, more than 200 components are used in +3500 products are made from recycled plastics and 80 % of our packaging is made of recycled and recyclable cardboard.

  • What is a sustainability certification?

Sustainability certifications are official endorsements indicating that a company meets established criteria to reduce its impact on the environment, promote social well-being, and maintain long-term economic viability. It is a proof of sustainability commitment, creating trust and transparency.

For the purpose of building trust and credibility, sustainability certification helps to recognize companies which are providing strong evidence of their commitment, and concrete actions towards a more sustainable world such as using resources efficiently to minimize waste.

  • Sustainability certifications for Hager’s products and services

At Hager Group, we are committed to sustainability and environmental responsibility. We understand the importance of ensuring that our products and processes meet the highest standards of environmental stewardship. That's why we have obtained several certifications that demonstrate our dedication.

Hager (the manufacturing entity under the umbrella of Hager Group) holds several sustainability certifications, including EcoVadis Gold rating, our membership of Klimaschutz-Unternehmen e.V., ISO 9001 for all our plants.

  • PEP declaration

PEP (Product Environmental Profile) serves as a comprehensive document, detailing all the resources involved in the production or, in simpler terms, providing insight into the entire fabrication process. Through the PEP ecopassport® declaration we meticulously evaluate the ecological impact of our items across their entire lifecycle, from the extraction of raw materials to their ultimate disposal at end-of-life. This rigorous assessment enables us to measure and effectively mitigate factors such as energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, and resource depletion. This is also a crucial asset in our eco-design strategy as we use this data as a basis to continuously improve our environmental impact.

PEP declarations demonstrate our commitment to ecological considerations and provide transparency for our customers.

  • RoHS declaration

The European RoHS directive 2011/65/EU and its amendment 2015/863/EU restrict the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment.

    The concerned (10) substances are:

Mercury, Lead, Hexavalent chromium, Cadmium, Polybrominated biphenyl (PBB), Polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE), Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), Butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP), Dibutyl phthalate (DBP), Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP)

The RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) is a document stipulating all directives relating to the requirements imposed on chemicals and other products. It emphasizes that a company wishing to claim this document must not market any materials containing substances hazardous to health. Thus, it ensures that our materials comply with strict regulations regarding the use of hazardous substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and certain flame retardants. By meeting RoHS standards, we are contributing to the health and safety of both our customers and the environment, while also promoting the responsible management of electronic waste.

  • REACh declaration

The REACh (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals) declaration is a comprehensive regulatory framework aimed at assessing and managing the risks associated with chemical substances. By declaring REACh documentation, we demonstrate our commitment to transparency and compliance with regulations regarding the use of chemicals in our products. This declaration helps us ensure the safety of our products and protect human health and the environment.

The REACh regulation entered into force on June 1st, 2007. Regarding human health and environment, the target is to manufacture and to use only safe substances inside the EU.

Hager Group designs, manufactures and sells electro technical products. Considering the terms of the regulation, Hager Group manufactures “articles” and is a “downstream user”.

We check that our suppliers comply to REACh requirements for all the materials and components they deliver to us. Hager Group is committed to supplying its customers with safe products that are not only safe for the users, but also safe for the environment. This is why Hager Group also complies with the REACh regulation.

  • International recognition of our sustainability declarations

Sustainability declarations such as PEP, RoHS and REACh are widely recognized internationally. While RoHS and REACh are directives issued by the European Union, their influence extends beyond EU borders as many companies worldwide adopt these standards for their products, either to comply with international regulations or to meet the increasing demand from consumers for more sustainable and eco-friendly products. Additionally, PEP ecopassport® methodology is widely used internationally for industries who install electrical, electronic and HVAC (heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, refrigeration) in buildings and acknowledged in industries seeking to assess and reduce the environmental impact of their products globally.

  • Why are these declarations and certifications important for Hager?

At Hager, we recognize the importance of providing electrical solutions for residential, commercial, and industrial buildings that meet more than just the basic needs of consumers. We are genuinely committed to protecting the environment. Our sustainable practices and solutions demonstrate our ongoing effort to minimize our environmental footprint and promote eco-friendly practices. We strive to align with the growing and legitimate consumer demands and today's ecological challenges by offering electrical solutions that combine efficiency, sustainability, and responsibility.

These certifications attest to our commitment to protect the environment and promote responsible practices.
