Eficia and Decathlon: shaping smart energy management since 2014

20. August 2026

For more than a decade, Decathlon has relied on Eficia, Hager’s energy management specialist, to improve the performance of its buildings across France. Today, around 300 stores benefit from a centralised energy management approach that combines intelligent building control, continuous optimisation and expert support - helping Decathlon reduce energy consumption, improve operational efficiency and advance its ambitious decarbonisation strategy.

A shared commitment to performance and sustainability
As one of the world's leading sporting goods retailers, Decathlon has set itself an ambitious target: reducing CO₂ emissions by 40% between 2021 and 2030, in line with the Paris Agreement.

While a large share of the company's carbon footprint is linked to product manufacturing and its broader value chain, improving the energy performance of its buildings remains an important lever in achieving this objective.

To support this effort, Decathlon partnered with Eficia by Hager to deploy a Building Management System (BMS) and Energy Management System (EMS) across its store network. Combined with Eficia’s 24/7 remote energy management service, the solution enables centralised monitoring and optimisation of HVAC systems, lighting and electrical consumption from a single platform.

Today, approximately 300 stores across France are connected to the system, creating a powerful foundation for data-driven energy management at scale.

Optimising energy performance - around the clock

At the heart of the project is the Eficia Energy Center, where energy experts remotely supervise and optimise store operations 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Using data from connected buildings, weather forecasts, occupancy patterns and real-time operating conditions, the system continuously adapts heating, cooling and lighting to actual needs. It also detects energy waste, identifies unusual consumption patterns and helps eliminate unnecessary energy use outside opening hours.

By centralising the management of hundreds of stores through a single platform, Decathlon benefits from consistent energy performance across its network while reducing the workload for local teams.

"Working with Eficia for more than twelve years has enabled us to significantly improve the management of our buildings. Their centralised and continuous energy optimisation helps us reduce consumption while maintaining comfort for our teams and customers, supporting our long-term decarbonisation strategy."

From consuming less to consuming smarter

The energy landscape has changed significantly over the past decade. Today, reducing consumption alone is no longer enough.

Through its partnership with Decathlon, Eficia by Hager is helping shift energy management towards a more dynamic approach—one that takes into account not only how much electricity is used, but also when it is used.

“Twelve years ago, energy management was mainly about reducing consumption. Today, the challenge is different: organisations still need to consume less, but they also need to consume better and at the right time. That's where intelligent energy management creates real value.”

To address this challenge, Eficia helps customers adjust energy consumption according to electricity availability, market conditions and carbon intensity. By shifting certain energy uses towards periods when electricity is less carbon-intensive and more readily available, Decathlon can further reduce emissions while contributing to a more flexible and resilient energy system.

Preparing buildings for future energy challenges

As commercial buildings become more connected and energy systems more complex, intelligent energy management is becoming a strategic enabler for future-ready operations.

Through its long-standing partnership with Decathlon, Eficia demonstrates how centralised building management, continuous optimisation and expert support can help organisations respond to changing regulatory, economic and environmental requirements.

Now fully integrated into Hager’s business portfolio, Eficia combines its energy management expertise with Hager’s comprehensive and expanding portfolio of building technologies and solutions—helping customers transform their buildings into more efficient, resilient and sustainable assets through simple, integrated and intelligent solutions.
