Decarbonisation: from ambition to action

22. April 2026

On United Nations Earth Day, one message is clear: climate action must move from ambition to concrete progress, now. At the heart of this shared global challenge lies a single priority: decarbonization.

Buildings alone account for 38% of global CO₂ emissions, but today we have the tools to turn them from passive energy users into intelligent energy managers.

Across Hager, teams are embedding data, discipline and collaboration into everyday decisions — turning climate ambition into measurable CO₂ reductions.

"When human energy, environmental responsibility, and business purpose come together, our collective impact becomes a force for lasting change — building better buildings and better tomorrows.” - Matthieu Alexandropoulos , Sustainability Senior Director.

What does decarbonization actually look like beyond strategy and targets?

Across our sites worldwide, it takes shape through everyday decisions — in production, planning, logistics and operations. As Michel Voinson, Manufacturing Program Senior Manager, puts it: “Decarbonization doesn’t start with technology - it starts with a clear plan, shared across teams and supported by data.”

This is how teams across Hager are moving toward a common goal: reducing Scope 1 & 2 emissions by 50% by 2030, by embedding decarbonization into daily operations - not just into targets.

Decarbonization Voices: what we are learning across our sites

One question guides the work across locations worldwide: "How can decarbonization become part of everyday decisions?" The answers are diverse, but the lessons are strikingly consistent.

#1 Awareness as a starting point – Robin Wu (China)

“To achieve better energy performance, every member needs to enhance their awareness of energy saving and emission reduction.”

Lesson learned: Awareness is the foundation - without it, technical solutions remain underused.

#2 Operational decisions matter – Gianluigi Tabbí (Italy)

“Even simple changes in daily work can make a real difference.”

Lesson learned: Operational efficiency and environmental impact are closely linked.

#3 From intuition to precision – Vincent He (China)

“We moved from implementing isolated improvements to taking structured, data-driven actions.”

Lesson learned: Data transforms decarbonization from reactive to precise.

Accelerating collective impact with our customers

How we decarbonize internally also shapes the value we create beyond our operations. Across sectors and geographies, we turn energy and carbon challenges into long-term performance, by embedding data and operational discipline into everyday decisions.

“At Eficia by Hager, energy is no longer something buildings simply consume - it is actively managed. In 2025, we helped our customers avoid nearly 240 GWh of energy consumption, proving that the greatest potential for decarbonization already lies within existing buildings, through continuous optimization and active energy management rather than passive use.” Julien Bellynck, Managing Director at Eficia by Hager.

“With Advizeo by Hager, data becomes a strategic asset for decarbonization. By turning energy consumption data into clear, actionable insights embedded in everyday decisions, we help organizations drive performance while keeping investments under control. In 2025, this data driven approach contributed to avoiding nearly 42,000 tonnes of CO₂e for our customers.” Xavier Gounon, Marketing Director at Advizeo by Hager.

Across all sites, one insight connects these experiences

Decarbonization becomes real when it is collectively embedded in how we operate - not treated as a separate initiative. It is built together, shaped by data, guided by collaboration, and sustained by people who understand the impact of their everyday.
