Energy Award at Perifem Day: Eficia redefines retail energy management

30. March 2026

Eficia by Hager, has won the Energy Award at Perifem Day 2026 for its innovative project integrating battery storage into the smart energy management of tertiary buildings. Developed in collaboration with Hager’s E3/DC for future deployment, the solution transforms battery storage into an active lever for energy optimization, fully integrated into the building’s control strategy. A Leroy Merlin store in Béziers, France, demonstrates its real-world impact.

The project stands out for its practical, forward-looking approach, positioning storage not just as a backup, but as a dynamic operational tool for retail and tertiary buildings. By integrating battery storage into the building’s energy management system, Eficia delivers tangible benefits in energy performance, cost savings, grid flexibility, and decarbonization—without compromising store operations or customer comfort.

What makes this solution unique?

A key strength of the solution is its hardware-agnostic design: while the project submitted for the award featured an E3/DC battery, the system is built to be flexible, scalable, and adaptable to various site configurations, technical environments, and customer needs.

But what truly sets it apart is its role as an operational building block for flexible energy management. Unlike traditional storage, this system is fully integrated into the building’s management system and 24/7 energy control, turning batteries into an active tool.

Eficia’s approach addresses multiple challenges at once: reducing peak demand, shifting loads, maximizing on-site solar integration, and enhancing grid flexibility. The result: Retail buildings become flexible energy assets, capable of decoupling consumption from price spikes and carbon intensity.

A testament to collaboration

This award is more than just a recognition of an innovative project—it is a concrete demonstration of what collaboration across Hager’s Energy Management Business Unit can achieve. By bringing together expertise from different entities, the team developed a solution that bridges customer needs, operational performance, and environmental impact.

“We are very proud to receive the Perifem Energy Award. This recognition highlights a strong conviction we share at Eficia and across Hager’s Energy Management Business Unit: innovation creates the most value when it connects concrete customer needs, operational performance and environmental impact. This project, built around the integration of battery storage into the smart energy management of tertiary buildings, is a great example of how we can combine the Group’s expertise to develop practical, forward-looking solutions for the retail sector, always with the invaluable collaboration of our clients, who continuously challenge us to go further.” Julien Bellynck, Managing Director of Eficia

Real-world impact

The project’s success at Leroy Merlin in Béziers serves as a real-world proof point, demonstrating how Hager’s expertise in smart energy management drives efficiency, sustainability, and resilience in retail operations. It’s a prime example of how technology, collaboration, and ambition come together to create meaningful change—especially in a context where electrification, volatile energy prices, and renewable integration are reshaping the energy landscape.

Congratulations to all the teams involved in this project, and more broadly to all the entities within the Energy Management Business Unit that contribute every day to making this kind of achievement possible.
