The winners of Australia’s peak international design awards were announced during the 2021 Good Design Awards Week in October. The Good Design Awards are the highest honour for design and innovation in the country and reward projects across 12 design disciplines and 30 subcategories.
Hager’s ‘Make the switch program’ of both “allure “ and “finesse” ranges received the 2021 Good Design Award Winner accolade.The ‘Make the switch’ program provides refreshed interpretation of the classic Australian switches and sockets; proposing two new lines “allure” and “finesse” that represents the match between tradition and transformation, both through a much clearer design code whilst maintaining their distinct individuality. They were released in Australia in May 2021.
“We opted for a clear and clean design with a notion of extreme restraint by removing what is not necessary. Our choice of combining opaque and translucent material brings lightness, creates a shadow, some magic and poetic feel. We went further than changing aesthetics. Finer details make our products faster to install (built-in levels, pre-installed screws), simpler to handle (allure and finesse share common mechanisms & engines - less stock required), and safer (IP2x, no push-in of mechanisms into wall),” said Erwin van Handenhoven, Hager Designer.

While using extremely simple lines preserves every visual code necessary to celebrate Australian habits. “allure” can be easily welcomed in all Australian interiors because it combines tradition and novelty. It is not a provocative product. Not at the expense of functionality: it fits perfectly to the wall, is fast to install and has no dust nest.

“finesse” is clearly architecturally inspired to seduce audience with its minimalistic and precise design, an ingenious simplicity. It brings nobility, grace and class. Its low profile makes it exceptional and remarkable in its discretion. “finesse” is perfectly balanced proportion, Architectural, restrained and remarkable in its absence.
